Rostov-Don beats Kuban in Russian Cup

In the first match of the women’s handball Russian Cup quarterfinal, Rostov-Don secured a confident victory over Kuban with a score of 36-23. The game took place in Krasnodar, where the first half ended 18-13 in favor of the Rostov team. In the second half, the visitors increased the pressure and did not allow the hosts to close the gap, bringing the match to a decisive success.

«Of course, not everything worked out, but credit to the opposing team, thanks to them for the game. The girls always put up a fight, they try to create interesting new moments in defense against us. In some cases it doesn’t work out because of the opponent. They always play with great desire. The mistakes were forced because Kuban played well. But there were also some losses of our own that we could have avoided. Especially at the start of the second half: we made three turnovers right away. Then we pulled ourselves together,» summed up Rostov-Don’s head coach Irina Dibirova.

The return match will take place on February 9 at the Rostov Sports Palace. The semifinalist will be determined by the aggregate score of the two matches.
