Rostov-Don Beat Kuban in Russian Cup Quarterfinal
The women«s handball club Rostov-Don defeated Kuban with a score of 36-23 in the first match of the Russian Cup quarterfinal.
The first half in Krasnodar ended with Rostov leading by five goals — 18-13. In the second half, Rostov-Don secured a confident victory, not allowing the home team to get back into the game. The match ended with a score of 36-23.
«Of course, not everything worked out, but we must give credit to the opposing team, thank them for the game. The girls always put up a fight, trying to create interesting new defensive moments against us. Sometimes things don«t work out because of the opponent. They always play with great desire. The mistakes were forced because »Kuban« played well. But there were also some losses of our own that we could have avoided. Especially at the beginning of the second half: we made three turnovers right away. Then we pulled ourselves together,» — summed up the match Rostov-Don»s head coach Irina Dibirova.
The return match will take place on 9 February at the Rostov Palace of Sports. The winner of the tie will be determined by the aggregate score of two matches.
