The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) has obtained legal protection for a unified national team mascot. It is a brown bear, whose image is based on the official mascot of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow.
The application to register the symbol was filed in July 2025. A positive decision from Rospatent was received in January, granting the new mascot official legal status.
The updated mascot depicts a brown bear standing upright. On the bear«s chest is a medal with the logo of the Russian Olympic Committee. This image is a direct reference to one of the most recognizable sports symbols in the country»s history — the 1980 Olympic bear.
