Mass run through Kurgan's historic center set for May
The mass run in Kurgan aims to promote tourism and prepare for a future half marathon event.
A run through the historic center of Kurgan, named «There Beyond the Mounds,» will be held. This was reported to the editorial office of 45.RU by the Department of Sports and Physical Culture of the Kurgan Region.
Preliminarily, the sports competition is planned for mid-May. Participants will have distances of one, five, and ten kilometers, as well as a special children«s run. One of the goals of the run, organizers say, is tourism-related, to showcase Kurgan»s historic center. Athletes from other regions will be invited to participate.
Earlier, the run in the city center was mentioned on the social media of the Kurgan Region government.
‘For us personally, we call this project preparation for the first Kurgan half marathon, which we are planning for 2027,’ noted the head of the regional sports department, Sergei Motorin.
Also, in early May, the traditional «Athletics Relay Dedicated to Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War» will be held at the central stadium named after V. Brumel. It has been held in Kurgan since 1941. Until 2022, the competition was called «Relay for the Prizes of the Newspaper »Novy Mir«.» This run until 2021 also took place on city streets.
