Artem Dzyuba appointed captain of Akron football club
Changes have occurred at Tolyatti«s football club Akron — the team has decided on a leader. The appointment was needed after the departure of Konstantin Savichev.
«The new captain will be Artem Dzyuba. He has already led the team onto the field and demonstrates the leadership qualities important for a captain,» stated head coach Zaur Tedeyev.
A captain is the one in the team who has special authority and can influence the outcome of a match.
Recently, representatives of Tolyatti«s football club Akron boasted about their first signing in 2026.
«Kevin Arevalo is a right-footed winger who often plays on the left flank. His key qualities are explosive starting speed, goal-oriented play, and quality crosses and shots. Kevin was noted by the sports department last summer, but due to various reasons, the deal was only completed now,» commented Akron representatives on the signing.
Dzyuba joined Akron in September 2024 after leaving Moscow«s Lokomotiv. In March, he scored his 234th career goal, becoming the top scorer in the history of Russian football and the national team in particular (31 goals).
