70 sailors aged 9-17 race in Vysotsky regatta

In Sochi, as part of the annual All-Russian festival, city sailing competitions dedicated to the memory of Vladimir Vysotsky have opened. The regatta features 70 yachtsmen aged 9 to 17. Athletes from the federal territory of Sirius are participating for the first time.

— The Vladimir Vysotsky memorial regatta has been held in Sochi since 2007. Traditionally, in July, the Black Sea waters become a meeting place for yachtsmen, and the competitions are held to the tunes of the legendary bard«s songs. This season, races are organized in several yacht classes, allowing athletes of different skill levels to participate. The young sailors» competitions have become an integral part of the festival, which combines sports, creativity, and the memory of the legendary poet, musician, and actor, — said Anatoly Miroshnikov, director of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Sochi administration.

The idea for the project was born in 2000 in Samara, where the regatta was launched by a friend of Vladimir Vysotsky, Vsevolod Khanchin. In 2007, Sochi joined the project, becoming one of five host cities along with Samara, Tolyatti, St. Petersburg, and Vladivostok.

The regatta will continue until July 24.
