Kuzbass Coal to Be Used for Russian Space Industry
Kuzbass products obtained through deep coal processing technologies may be in demand by the space industry. This was stated by the region«s Governor Ilya Seredyuk following a strategic session on coal industry development on his social media pages.
According to Seredyuk, the development of deep processing of solid fuel is of particular importance for the region, the coal industry, and relevant Kuzbass enterprises. The emergence of such production would allow the region to supply not only raw materials but also products in demand in high-tech sectors.
“Special prospects for coal chemistry and new ways of using coal. Experts have clearly demonstrated the possibility of producing dozens of types of products based on it. This is, first of all, carbon fiber for the aerospace industry. Also synthetic gases, sorbents and much more,” — the governor noted.
Seredyuk did not specify a timeline for implementing the idea, although he expressed confidence that it would eventually be realized.
As NGS42.RU wrote, in recent months, amid the crisis in the key Kuzbass coal industry, authorities have repeatedly spoken about the obsolescence of the previous model of mining and selling “black gold.” Last autumn, the region launched a center for coal chemistry and deep coal processing technologies, which includes scientists and representatives of large enterprises that could serve as bases for implementing new developments.
