Uss told reporters that «by and large, nothing stands in the way» of starting construction. The construction site has been prepared since summer, he said: the most valuable tree species were moved from there, «landscape solutions» were developed, and a construction camp was organized.
«In principle, we can start. Literally, I think, within the next two weeks, we will move forward on the issue of obtaining a construction permit,» said Alexander Uss. «We expected to reach the final expert review in December, and now it will finally happen. In projects of this kind, solidity and quality are paramount. And when it comes to projects aimed at decades, centuries, such shifts are not fundamental.»
However, from Uss«s words, the issue of finances and who exactly is paying for the cathedral remained unclear: »Then we have every opportunity to reach out to Krasnoyarsk residents and large companies... so that funding is sufficient. And we will see this majestic building in the foreseeable future, without stretching it out over many years...«
The press service of the Department of Urban Planning of NGS24.RU said that no one has yet applied for a permit. But according to the Urban Planning Code, he has that right if the necessary package of documents is provided.
«But note that any major and iconic objects must fit into the surrounding environment,» they added. «Last week, the head of Krasnoyarsk, due to numerous questions from residents, decided to consider the cathedral project at the Urban Planning Council so that the professional community could evaluate the object in terms of spatial characteristics and parameters. The cathedral is planned to be built on the Central Embankment, a favorite recreation spot for citizens, so decisions must take into account the status of this territory and its development.»
According to the results of a poll in the NGS24.RU Telegram channel, 69% of subscribers spoke out against building a church on this site.
At Strelka, they plan to recreate the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin, which was built in the second half of the 19th century. True, it stood in a different place — on what is now Revolution Square. Under Soviet rule in the 1930s, it was blown up, and then the House of Soviets was erected (now the regional government building).
