Sometimes relationships end after long talks, arguments, and attempts to fix everything. And sometimes a single message or a completely unexpected phrase is enough to put an end to it. We collected readers« stories about breakups — not only with romantic partners but also with friends. Here are their accounts.

Exes

«I was dumped by text message on the eve of my birthday. It killed any desire to celebrate my birthday for several years.»

«I went on vacation, and he took offense and decided to break up. Then for another year he kept offering to start over, but too late.»

«Mine was almost the same: I was studying in another city, dating a local guy, the holidays came, and I went to my parents, and he decided to break up.»

«When I turned out not to be his type, he told me: »I can«t date a girl taller than me.» I laughed for a long time, of course. And in the end he started dating a girl a couple of centimeters taller than me.«

«My ex once said: »Choose: either me or that dog.« Let»s go back to the first word — he dumped me.«

«I dated a guy for a year, and out of nowhere I told him: »Don«t come over anymore.» Two weeks later I met my future husband… And how can you not believe in such miracles in a sieve.«

Breakups with Friends

It«s not only partners you have to part with. Sometimes a friendship of many years ends just as unexpectedly.

«I had that kind of breakup with a friend. We were inseparable throughout our studies, after graduation we moved to different places but kept in touch for several years. Last year she simply deleted me everywhere and stopped answering. The reason is unknown. It»s both funny and sad.«

«I was friends with a »friend« (or so I thought) for probably 15 years. She gets married (without a wedding), posts a photo on social media. Naturally, I congratulate her on starting a family, a bunch of well-wishes and so on. And she silently blocks me everywhere in response. Two years have passed, and I still don»t understand what that was about.«

«I have a similar situation: I was friends with a girl, we were always together everywhere, even though she had been married for a long time. Then I got a boyfriend, and I started spending a bit less time with her. So I was removed from all the chats everywhere, they took offense that I was spending less time with her, and somehow I ended up being the one to blame.»

And sometimes it«s not just a relationship that ends but a marriage of many years. And here the consequences can be far more serious — shared children, property, housing, and the need to completely rebuild a familiar life. Earlier we collected stories from Tyumen residents who went through a divorce and told what they faced afterward.

But even after a breakup, it«s not always possible to put a final end to things. According to a Level Group study, only 22% of Russians were able to move out from their former partners right away. Another 11% continued living together because they couldn»t afford separate housing, and the same share — because of a shared apartment that needed to be sold or divided. What life with an ex under one roof looks like — we told in another 72.RU piece.
