Building Opposite TYuZ Demolished for Office Center

In Yekaterinburg, a two-story building opposite the TYuZ (Theatre for Young Spectators) that had been abandoned for over a decade and was gradually deteriorating has been demolished. The structure at 1 Shevchenko Street sat on a plot of nearly 2,000 square meters.

First, the area was fenced off, then construction machinery moved in. Now, only an empty lot remains where the building once stood.

Several years ago, the building was put up for sale for 205 million rubles (approximately $2,277,800 at current rates), along with a business center project approved for the site. A new owner appears to have been found and intends to realize the plan. Currently, the permitted land use is for healthcare facilities, but this is under review.

Yekaterinburg city administration has announced plans to rezone the plot as Ts-1 (public and business zone). The matter has been submitted to the land use and development commission. If approved, an office building will likely be constructed there.

Earlier this spring, a 23-story office building in the city center was put up for sale, and in May an office building on Proletarskaya Street — where bailiffs had worked for many years — was demolished. Also slated for demolition is the former Kharbin restaurant at 38 Kuibysheva Street. Nearly the entire block, including the vacant lot from the demolished Deli Hotel, will be redeveloped into a commercial and office center.
