As reported by a TASS source, among the topics of the negotiations are buffer zones and various control mechanisms. This stage of the negotiations was largely closed off to journalists. Meanwhile, according to their data, the sides have already agreed to continue the conversation on January 24. For now, the delegations will report the interim results of the talks to their capitals.
Russian President«s press secretary Dmitry Peskov emphasized on the same day that the work on settlement continues — and it is important to implement the »Anchorage Formula.« This refers to the meeting in Alaska of the presidents of Russia and America, which took place in 2025.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that at the negotiations in Abu Dhabi, the parameters for ending the conflict are being discussed.
«Almost every hour, Ukrainian representatives report to me, they are now in the Emirates, where today Ukrainian, American, and Russian delegations are present, and a conversation has already taken place,» Zelenskyy«s address is quoted by RIA Novosti.
The American and Ukrainian delegations want to propose to Russia a partial ceasefire, as previously reported by the Financial Times newspaper. This involves Russia ceasing strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, and Ukraine, in turn, stopping attacks on Russian oil refineries and tankers of the so-called shadow fleet.
Presidential aide Yury Ushakov earlier noted that before departing for Abu Dhabi, Kremlin representatives received specific instructions from President Vladimir Putin of Russia.
It is noted that the American side«s representative Steve Whitkoff will also hold separate negotiations on economic issues with the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Dmitriev. They will discuss the »Peace Council« and Russia»s readiness to allocate $1 billion to the organization«s budget from Russian assets frozen by the previous US administration.
