Oleg Berkovich required urgent spinal surgery after a recurrence of an old back injury.
39-year-old deputy governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Oleg Berkovich said that 2026 began for him with a recurrence of an old back injury, sustained right after the 800th anniversary of the regional center. He urgently required surgery, «because it was already impossible to walk,» the official shared in his Telegram channel.

Today he was discharged from the hospital. He made himself a promise that during rehabilitation and after, sport will become a regular happiness in his life, because this situation «sobered him up.» Oleg Berkovich also expressed gratitude to his wife, who «endured him, supported him, gave him injections every day before the surgery, and didn»t let him mope.«
At the end of December, Oleg Berkovich talked about the fate of the new theater and eco-park on the Grebnoy Canal in Nizhny Novgorod. They will become part of the comprehensive development of the urban area.
