Kuzbass Governor Apologizes for Maternity Hospital Comments, Deletes Video
Ilya Seredyuk, the governor of Kemerovo Oblast, commented on the reason for deleting his livestream, during which he spoke about the notorious maternity hospital. Among other things, on Thursday, 22 January, he apologized for his words.
Seredyuk explained that during the broadcast he brought up the topic of the maternity hospital, which caused «a lot of emotions». He noted that in such situations the right words are important.
«I am sincerely sorry that my words caused someone pain. Now the main thing is supporting the families and the most objective, professional investigation of all the circumstances of what happened. Thank you to everyone who cares,» writes Seredyuk.
The head of the region emphasized that he himself decided to delete the controversial video because it contained wording that was misinterpreted.
During the livestream, Seredyuk said that he supports the doctors, but called for refraining from searching for those responsible for the situation at the Novokuznetsk maternity hospital. He also confirmed information that had already been circulating on social media and in the press that the children were from troubled families and the women led an unhealthy lifestyle, which could have harmed the fetus.
Fragments of the broadcast began to spread on social media, and the publications included a context of blaming the mothers for what happened, after which the governor deleted the recording.
