First Day of Ukraine Conflict Talks Ends

A new session of the trilateral working group on resolving the conflict in Ukraine has concluded in the UAE, Axios reports. It lasted nearly four hours.
According to Dmitry Peskov, press secretary of the Russian president, the participants of the negotiating groups are coordinating the start time of the consultations on site. Security issues were discussed during the meeting.
The Ukrainian delegation, led by Rustem Umerov, secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, said the talks were held in various formats. First, there were trilateral meetings, then work in separate groups. After that, the sides held a repeat meeting to consolidate results.
The negotiations took place in the same location as the first meeting of the delegations. The sides sat at a U-shaped table: representatives of Russia and Ukraine — opposite each other, while the Americans, including Steven Witkoff, U.S. President«s special representative, and Jared Kushner, Donald Trump»s son-in-law — sat in the middle, WAM reports.
The Kremlin representative noted that Russia is continuing its special military operation but is always ready for a diplomatic solution to the current situation. At the same time, Moscow«s position is clear to both Kyiv and Washington.
«The doors for a peaceful resolution of the conflict are open. Russia maintains its openness,» Peskov said in a conversation with journalists.
The sides will continue the dialogue on 5 February. Peskov urged not to expect statements on the outcome of the talks in Abu Dhabi.
The first round of trilateral security consultations took place in Abu Dhabi on 23–24 January. Representatives of Russia, the United States, and Ukraine took part. The meetings were held in the strictest confidential format without press presence.
Presumably, the conditions for a potential peace settlement, including security issues and territorial disputes, were discussed. After the first trilateral meetings, the President of Ukraine stated that Kyiv would «under no circumstances» abandon claims to the lands.
