The World Economic Forum kicked off in Davos on January 20. The results of the first day were multifaceted: first, the forum discussed the US, and second, it almost didn«t discuss Ukraine.

As reported by Axios, US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy were originally scheduled to meet at the forum. It was expected that they would sign a plan for Ukraine«s post-conflict recovery. However, the signing was cancelled.

Zelenskyy did not appear at the forum at all. Sources from Politico reported that he «really wanted» a personal meeting with Trump, but there was no such desire from the American side. Zelenskyy, in turn, wrote that he decided to stay in Ukraine due to the difficult energy situation in the country.

During the forum, it became known that the European Union and the US will suspend ratification of an important trade agreement. The agreement was reached last year. However, as BBC writes, the European Parliament will announce its suspension tomorrow. Thus, the EU will respond to Trump«s threats to impose tariffs on countries that dislike the idea of the United States seizing Greenland.

Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called on European countries not to take retaliatory measures due to new US tariffs.

«I tell everyone: sit down, take a deep breath, don»t take retaliatory measures,« TASS quotes the minister.

Bessent promised that Trump will arrive in Davos on Wednesday and will be open to resolving differences over the Greenland issue.
