Who Gets Extended Paid Leave in Russia?

Teachers, state and municipal civil servants, disabled people, scientists, and teenagers can take more than 28 days of paid leave. This was reported by Anastasia Kolodyazhnaya, a senior lecturer at the Department of Labor Law and Social Security Law named after K. N. Gusov at Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MGUA).

She explained that there is an extended basic leave of more than 28 calendar days and additional paid leave provided on top of the basic.

«Employees entitled to paid leave of more than 28 calendar days: minors — 31 calendar days at any convenient time for them; disabled people of all groups — at least 30 calendar days; teaching staff — from 42 to 56 calendar days,» said Kolodyazhnaya.

In addition, extended leave is granted to state and municipal employees, scientists, and those who work with chemical weapons, according to RIA Novosti. Some other Russians are entitled to additional paid leave. These include:

employees with irregular working hours;

workers in harmful and hazardous industries;

residents of the Far North and equivalent areas;

medical workers;

athletes and coaches;

citizens affected by radiation.

Kolodyazhnaya clarified that employers can extend the annual leave for other employees as well. This is possible if such a provision is fixed in a collective agreement or a local regulatory act of the organization.
