In the evening near the Passage shopping mall in Yekaterinburg, two young men approached a young woman. They were approximately 1.56 meters (5 feet 1 inch) tall and about 19–20 and 15–17 years old respectively.

The strangers offered to get her a cashback from the bank she uses and asked which institutions she prefers. Under the pretext of accruing bonuses, they requested her phone number and then entered it into their smartphone along with her date of birth.

The older scammer introduced the younger one as a trainee he was teaching and explained that they needed to sign up clients for practice.

Soon, the woman received an SMS from an unknown organization — as it turned out, it was a registration on a micro-loan website. The men persistently asked her to dictate the code from the message, claiming it was necessary for the cashback accrual.

When they asked for her passport for «identity verification,» the woman lied and said she didn«t have it with her. Then the scammers switched to the banking app: under the same pretext, they logged into her account, received several codes, and left.

After they left, the woman opened the app and in the «devices» section saw a login from an unknown Android smartphone, made two minutes ago.

She immediately changed her phone number linked to the bank, froze and reissued all her cards.

The woman warns other residents to be careful and not to fall for the tricks of scammers who can smooth-talk you.
