Woman dies at Yakutsk's Cholbon pool; probe launched

The Investigative Department for Yakutsk is conducting a procedural inquiry into the death of a 63-year-old visitor at the Cholbon swimming pool in Yakutsk. This was reported to 14.RU on February 5 by the department«s press service.
«A report of the incident was received by the investigative authorities on the evening of February 4. Investigators and emergency services arrived at the scene. An inspection of the scene has been carried out, a medical examination has been ordered, and interviews are being conducted,» the press service said.
According to the publication Sakhalife, the 63-year-old woman came for an evening session at the pool but felt unwell around 7:31 p.m. Pool staff, including an instructor, tried to help her and called an ambulance crew.
The ambulance station confirmed to a correspondent from 14.RU that the woman died at the pool; doctors arrived seven minutes after the call. Despite all resuscitation efforts, they could not save her.
«The causes of death will be determined by the investigation; we cannot disclose any other information,» the ambulance service clarified.
On February 6, a meeting with four-time Olympic swimming champion Alexander Popov was scheduled at the Cholbon pool. Due to the accident, the Ministry of Sports of Yakutia decided to hold the meeting at the Modun Sports Complex. The Cholbon swimming pool was closed on February 5.
