Voronezh Disabled Man Who Broke Both Legs Gets Compensation
In Voronezh, a wheelchair-bound man who fell on an icy ramp and broke both legs has received compensation. This was reported by the regional prosecutor«s office.
Recall that the incident occurred in January. Vitaly Bykovsky fell from his wheelchair while descending a ramp at the Dolphin residential complex, which was covered with ice. The man suffered displaced fractures of both legs. Vitaly«s story was covered in our article.
After this, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case, and the prosecutor«s office conducted an inspection.
«The supervisory authority conducted an on-site inspection of compliance with requirements for the maintenance of the courtyard area of the Dolphin residential complex. Violations were identified related to improper cleaning of the courtyard area from snow and ice in the winter period, and equipping the ramp with anti-slip coating,» the prosecutor«s office said.
Based on the inspection results, an administrative offense case was opened against the director of the management company «Modern Level» for conducting activities in violation of licensing requirements. The case was sent to the housing inspection for review. Also, a representation was submitted to the head of the management company regarding the identified violations.
The main result of the prosecutor«s intervention was voluntary compensation to the victim. After the intervention of the supervisory authority, an agreement was concluded between the management company and the injured man. The management company undertook to pay him 79,000 rubles ($869 at current rates) for medical expenses and 300,000 rubles ($3,300 at current rates) for moral damages.
«The entire amount has been paid to the victim,» the prosecutor«s office reported.
Voronezh1.ru contacted Vitaly. The man confirmed that he received the compensation.
«Currently I am lying in the regional hospital, I have a private room. The treatment situation is unclear. The doctors say I just need rest. That option does not suit me, I talked to them. They are now working out other options. There will be a consultation. Treatment and further rehabilitation will be long, it’s too early to talk about results,» the man shared.
