Village man cracks safe at Ufa car dealership

Ufa police detained a 48-year-old man suspected of breaking into a safe at a car dealership and stealing 640,000 rubles ($6,400 at current rates). According to law enforcement, he had come to the capital of Bashkortostan (Ufa) for work from the Arkhangelsk district of the republic and spotted a quick way to enrich himself.

According to the Bashkortostan Ministry of Internal Affairs, the suspect learned that a substantial amount of money was kept in the safe of one of the Ufa car dealerships located in a large shopping center. The man waited until the employees went to the parking lot to handle car sales, entered the office, and opened the safe with a screwdriver.

He left the dealership with the loot but eventually fell into the hands of the police. They soon identified him and detained him. A criminal case was opened on charges of theft. The suspect was taken into custody.

«The man arrived in Ufa in search of work, but, unable to find a job, decided to commit a crime. He had already managed to spend part of the stolen funds on personal needs,» police said.
