Victim of gas explosion in Riazan lived alone, neighbors say

A resident of the Borki microdistrict remains in stable but serious condition at the regional hospital. A YA62.RU journalist who visited the scene learned from neighbors everything known about the victim, the owner of the collapsed house.

The victim is named Roman, he is 38 years old and lived alone in the house in the Borki microdistrict. He has a son, but as neighbors tell, he is divorced from his wife.

«Roma lived alone now. He»s a decent, working man. I can«t say anything bad about him. He usually left home early in the morning — I think he worked somewhere in services, but I don»t remember exactly,« says neighbor Elena Sidorova.

The victim bought the plot in the Borki microdistrict a long time ago (neighbors don«t remember the exact year — Ed.). Local resident Petr says that a completely different private house used to stand in the same place, but it burned down, and no one remembers the details anymore.

Roman cleared the plot himself, demolished the remains of the old house, and built a new one. It took him about six years to improve the property, added Petr.

Alexei Sidorov, Elena«s husband, recalled the state he saw Roman in that morning. He himself, according to witnesses, crawled out from under the rubble. It was early — 5 a.m., so the victim was in only his underwear and without shoes.

«His leg was bloody, severe bruises on his left arm, shoulder… And he complained about his spine. Well, in shock. He couldn»t move, standing naked, in just his shorts, we put felt boots on him, put a jacket on, wrapped him in two blankets,« recalls Alexei Sidorov.

After about 20 minutes (neighbors indicate this time — Ed.), an ambulance team arrived. Another 15 minutes later, the team left with Roman.

A private residential house in Riazan«s Borki district collapsed on the morning of January 21. According to preliminary information from the Investigative Committee, the explosion occurred due to a household gas leak. This led to the collapse of the two-story house.

After the incident, the Investigative Committee of the Riazan Region began an investigation.
