Valdai hydrofoil rams boat, kills 38-year-old
A 38-year-old man died when a rubber boat collided with the Valdai vessel on the Oka River. He is survived by his wife and two children.

On 19 July, on the Oka River near the village of Pogorelka in Pavlovsky District, a Valdai hydrofoil collided with a rubber boat. The 38-year-old man who died had been relaxing on the shore with his family.
According to relatives, on that day the man had taken the rubber boat to pick up his loved ones. At that moment, the Valdai, traveling on the Pavlovo – Nizhny Novgorod route, struck him. Vessels of this series can accelerate to 65 km/h.
One of his friends jumped into the water to save the victim, but the injuries were incompatible with life. The mother of the deceased could not hold back tears: «Everyone is in shock. I am burying my second son, the same age — 38. I buried the first, now the second.»
The Nizhny Novgorod Transport Prosecutor«s Office and the Investigative Department for Transport of the Russian Investigative Committee have launched investigations into the tragedy.
