Valdai collision kills man, mother mourns second son

The man who died in the collision between a boat and the Valdai vessel in Pavlovsky District (Nizhny Novgorod Oblast) was 38 years old. He is survived by his wife and two children.

The tragedy occurred on July 19 on the Oka River near the village of Pogorelka. As the victim«s relatives told the program "Kstati", on the other side of the river there is a sandbar where locals relax and swim.

"They have a house there, and they were relaxing with their family. He took the rubber boat to go pick up his family," the victim«s mother shared.

The Valdai, which was traveling on the Pavlovo–Nizhny Novgorod route, struck the boat. Vessels of this series can reach speeds of up to 65 km/h. One of the friends jumped into the water to save the man, but his injuries proved fatal.

"Everyone is in shock. I am burying my second son, the same age — 38. I buried my first son, now the second," the mother said through tears.

The Nizhny Novgorod Transport Prosecutor«s Office and the Transport Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia organized inspections.
