Ural man's death in hurricane: details emerge
The body of a 74-year-old man was found under collapsed trees in a shed after a hurricane hit Zarechny (Sverdlovsk Oblast) on the evening of 20 July.

The hurricane that swept through Zarechny on the evening of 20 July claimed the life of a 74-year-old man. According to preliminary data, he tried to take shelter from the storm in a shed, but trees fell directly onto it. A participant in the rescue operation told E1.RU about this.

«In the evening, the family lost their loved one. They called him, but he did not answer. Members of the «Russian Community» (a volunteer group) and EMERCOM staff arrived at the scene. They began to clear the rubble of the collapsed shed. That is how the body was found. The tragedy occurred in an SNT (dacha cooperative),» our source said.

After that, volunteers with saws cleared the area of fallen trees. The press service of the Sverdlovsk branch of EMERCOM reported that due to the elements, power supply was disrupted in five settlements and 30 trees were felled.

The hurricane left widespread damage, with trees toppled and buildings destroyed.

«Over the past 24 hours, unfavorable meteorological phenomena were forecast in certain areas of the region, caused by heavy rains, thunderstorms, and wind gusts of up to 18 m/s (40 mph). The forecast came true. Currently, emergency restoration work has been completed, and power supply has been restored,» the agency specified.
Investigators from the Investigative Committee of Russia (SKR) have launched a probe after the man«s death.
«An inspection of the scene has been conducted, eyewitnesses are being questioned, and other measures are being taken, based on the results of which the tragedy will be given a proper legal assessment,» Alexander Shulga, senior assistant to the head of the SKR for Sverdlovsk Oblast, told E1.RU.

On 20 July, several more settlements were flooded, a dam burst in the Sysertsky District, and a temporary accommodation center for people was opened there.
