A resident of Ufa, accused of setting an apartment on fire in the city«s Inors district, was nearly sent to a remand center for the duration of the investigation. He is being charged with damaging or destroying another person»s property, according to the Kalininsky District Court.

According to the investigation, the 44-year-old man had a quarrel with his 40-year-old wife, after which he threatened to burn her apartment. On the morning of 17 January 2026, the residence did indeed catch fire. Firefighters who arrived extinguished the blaze, and local residents began their own investigation: on camera footage, they saw the suspect entering the building entrance with a canister, and when he came back out — smoke was already coming from the entrance.

Police soon detained the man. A criminal case for the intentional destruction of property has been initiated against him, causing damage of one million rubles (approximately $11,100 at current rates) to the apartment owner. The prosecution requested his arrest in court.

«The investigator»s motion was left unsatisfied, and the man was given a ban on certain activities as a preventive measure,« the court»s statement said.

This measure means the accused remains free, but he is prohibited, for example, from contacting the victims, leaving his residence at certain times, and may also be banned from using communication means, including the internet.
