A train shunter fell into a gap between a platform and a gondola car during night shunting operations in Zima.

A railroad worker died in the Ziminsky District while performing his duties. The tragedy occurred on the night of January 16 during shunting operations, according to the press service of the State Labor Inspectorate of the Angara Region.
It is known that the train shunter was on the platform and at some point fell into the gap between the platform and a gondola car near the coupling device. The emergency medical team that arrived at the scene was unable to save the man — medics declared death from the injuries sustained.
As reported by Roman Radushevsky, deputy head of the State Labor Inspectorate in the Irkutsk region, a special commission has been established to investigate all circumstances of the incident. According to the preliminary version, one of the causes of the tragedy could have been unsatisfactory organization of shunting operations.
The inspection is ongoing, and the situation is under the control of the State Labor Inspectorate.
As told to IrCity by the press service of the East Siberian Transport Prosecutor«s Office, the deceased was an employee of the company OMK Stalnoy Put. A representative of the department visited Zima station, and an inspection has been organized due to the incident.
According to the Kontur.Fokus system, the company OMK Stalnoy Put was registered in Moscow in 2011. Almost 100% of its shares belong to OJSC Russian Railways. The firm is engaged in auxiliary activities related to railway transport. In the Irkutsk region, the company has three wagon repair depots: in Cheremkhovo, Zima, and Vikhorevka.
There is no current information on financial indicators, but in 2022, the revenue of OMK Stalnoy Put was 18.4 billion rubles (approximately $184 million at current rates), and the net loss was 3.4 billion rubles (about $34 million at current rates).
