Taxi Driver Pepper Sprays Driver in Chita Road Conflict
According to the service, the driver was off duty and traveling for personal reasons at the time.
A driver for the Maxim taxi service used a pepper spray canister against another motorist during a road conflict in Chita. This was reported on February 2 on her Instagram* (banned in Russia) page by a fitness trainer named Ekaterina.
She said that she and her husband, who was driving, were heading to work in the morning. A road conflict occurred when her husband had a disagreement with the Maxim taxi driver. But the latter decided to act aggressively: he began pursuing the couple«s car, cutting them off and forcing them to the side of the road, and then overtook them and blocked the road.
«My husband had to get out and ask what was going on. The taxi driver swore and said, »What are you doing?« He took a can of pepper spray from his pocket and sprayed it twice. My husband lost his sight for several hours. In the heat of the moment, we didn»t remember the license plate. We went to the city hospital. We filed a complaint with the police against this man. But I«m not sure he will be punished,» the fitness trainer said.
She noted that the incident occurred near the intersection of Lazo and Yaroslavsky streets. The complaint was filed at the Ingodinsky District police department in Chita.
The press service of the Maxim taxi service confirmed the incident to a Chita.Ru correspondent on February 4: «We regret that this situation occurred. Law enforcement officials contacted the service, and all information about the driver has been provided to them. At the time of the incident, he was not on a job and was traveling for personal reasons.»
