Tatarstan teacher in coma after Egypt remains hospitalized

Republican Clinical Hospital in Kazan reports that teacher Olga Gardikhanova remains in critical condition after being transported from Egypt, where she suffered a stroke and fell into a coma.

Teacher Olga Gardikhanova from Alexeyevsky, who fell into a coma in Egypt, remains at the Republican Clinical Hospital (RKB) in Kazan. A 116.RU correspondent asked the RKB press service about her condition.

The hospital stated that Olga remains in the same condition as on the day she arrived in Kazan — in the intensive care unit in serious condition. No prognosis was provided.

The woman was brought to Kazan on January 30 by plane from Moscow, and from the airport to the hospital by a resuscitation ambulance. At the time, it was reported that she remains in a coma and is connected to a ventilator.

How Gardikhanova was transported to Kazan is unknown. Earlier, the victim«s son, Ruslan Gardikhanov, told a 116.RU correspondent that transport companies were asking 13 million rubles (about $130,000 at current rates) for the service.

The 51-year-old teacher fell ill on January 4 immediately upon arrival at Sharm el-Sheikh airport. She was hospitalized, diagnosed with a stroke, and placed in a coma. She underwent surgery there.

The source also noted that Olga had previous health issues: she had already suffered an ischemic stroke, and also has hypertension and diabetes. The hospital in Egypt gave no prognosis.
