Suspicious Cat Detained at Prison, Exposed by Dog

Staff at a penal colony in Russia's Nizhny Novgorod region caught a cat attempting to smuggle drugs to inmates, concealed in its collar. A sniffer dog exposed the contraband.

Staff at Penal Colony No. 17 in the Krasnobakovsky District (Nizhny Novgorod Region) detained a cat with a very unusual package. It was trying to deliver drugs to inmates, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Nizhny Novgorod Region (GUF SIN) reported.

The forbidden substances were to be secretly carried onto the prison grounds on the cat«s collar, inside which the perpetrators had hidden two packets. But the plan failed: the suspicious cat was caught by prison staff.

To determine the contents of the package, they enlisted the help of a special specialist — a dog named Foxy, trained to detect drugs. Then they ordered an examination, which confirmed the presence of prohibited substances.

«The fluffy offender was temporarily detained, his collar with substances was confiscated, he was examined, and after making sure he was fine, he was released,» the penal colony said.

In early July in Kstovo (Nizhny Novgorod Region), police officers gave chase to a driver, but a criminal case was ultimately opened against one of the passengers. He was found by narcotics control officers to have a packet of powdery substance, which turned out to be mephedrone.
