The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case against a 60-year-old resident of Tyumen on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack, illegal trafficking of weapons and explosives, and attempting to kill law enforcement officers. The man was eliminated on July 19, 2026, during his arrest.
Firearms and bomb-making materials were found at the suspect«s home.
According to investigators, the Tyumen resident contacted a representative of Ukrainian special services via Telegram. Following his instructions, he planned to carry out a terrorist attack at one of the major industrial enterprises in the Urals. The suspect studied a section of railway tracks, the security system, and train schedules, identifying vulnerable spots for placing an improvised explosive device (IED). He then manufactured the explosives.
On the night of July 19, 2026, while on the first floor of an abandoned building in Tyumen, the suspect placed the IED in a cache he had prepared. His criminal activity was uncovered by FSB officers. During the arrest, the man offered armed resistance and was eliminated.
During a search of the suspect«s residence, authorities seized firearms, components for making another IED, and mobile phones. The investigation continues.
