Suntarsky District Flood Submerges Over 100 Homes
Rain-induced flooding continues to inundate several districts of Yakutia. In Suntarsky District, water has entered 109 homesteads and 9 residential houses, where 472 people live, including 298 children. A correspondent of 14.RU was told by the district«s Unified Duty Dispatch Service (EDDS) that all residents stayed home, no one was evacuated.
«Everyone stayed in their homes, this is rain-induced flooding, so it is not so dangerous. The river is normal, the water level is dropping, necessary work is underway,» the Unified Duty Dispatch Service reported.
The Rescue Service of Yakutia reported that a temporary accommodation point was set up at the local school in the village of Suntar, but no one is staying there. As of July 20, 150 residents had filed appeals, of which 108 have already been processed.
The flood also destroyed roads, disrupting communication between the villages of Kempendyay, Tuoydakh, and Tyankya.
Meanwhile, in the Olekminsky, Khangalassky, and Verkhoyansky districts, water continues to rise. In Olekminsk, a residential house was flooded, and in the village of Sanyyakhtakh, the water level rose by 18 cm (7.1 inches) in a day. In Pokrovsk, the level rose by 37 cm (14.6 inches) over the same period, in the village of Suordakh by 24 cm (9.4 inches), and in the village of Betenkes by 86 cm (33.9 inches).
In the Eveno-Bytantaysky District, the water is slowly receding, but 13 homesteads are still flooded. In the village of Kustur, 27 people, including 12 children, are staying at a temporary accommodation point.
In the Lensky, Neryungrinsky, Oymyakonsky, and Momsky districts, the water is receding. The situation is under control of the Ministry for Civil Defense and Emergency Situations of Yakutia and the Rescue Service of Yakutia.
