Stabbing at Volgograd rehab center hospitalizes wheelchair user

An emergency occurred at a rehabilitation center in the Krasnoarmeysky district of Volgograd. There, two wheelchair users engaged in a knife fight. One of them was taken to the hospital in serious condition. However, officials from the regional health department are refusing to say how he is currently feeling.
As reported by a V1.RU reader, the emergency at the private «House of Mercy,» located in the Solyanoy settlement, occurred on January 19.
«In the Solyanoy settlement, closer to night, two disabled individuals (one missing both legs, the other missing one leg, both in wheelchairs) had a »knife battle« in their room, and one is now in intensive care with serious injuries. They disagreed over something, perhaps the television, what to watch, or something else,» the reader said.
The Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Volgograd Region reported a day after the incident: the conflict occurred between a previously convicted 55-year-old man and his 53-year-old neighbor.
«A domestic conflict arose between the men in the rehabilitation center, during which the suspect inflicted several knife wounds to the victim»s chest and abdomen area. A criminal case has been initiated against the suspect under the article «Intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm.» The issue of imposing a preventive measure in the form of detention is being decided,« the department clarified.
V1.RU correspondents reached out to Igor Sharashkin, the manager of the 24-hour stay department of the ANO «Mercy.» The man said he had no right to comment on anything and only noted that the information on social networks is exaggerated.
The V1.RU editorial office contacted the press service of the regional health committee to clarify the victim«s condition. However, Alena Strelina, a press service employee of the Volgograd Region governor»s office responsible for liaison with the health committee, refused to provide information about the patient«s condition, emphasizing that issues related to unlawful actions fall within the competence of law enforcement agencies.
In turn, Hanna Pavliy, a press service employee of the governor«s office responsible for liaison with the social protection committee, clarified that the incident occurred at the autonomous non-profit organization for social services »Mercy,« which provides social services in a semi-stationary form to individuals without a fixed place of residence or occupation, under conditions of night and 24-hour stay. The situation is under the control of the department and law enforcement agencies.
