St. Petersburg Woman Accused of Spying on Ex-Husband

On July 21, the St. Petersburg Prosecutor«s Office sent a criminal case on violation of privacy to court. Charges have been brought against a 49-year-old resident of the Petrogradsky District. According to the investigation, from July to September last year, she organized surveillance of her ex-husband.

To do this, the woman hired a private detective, who installed a GPS tracker under the rear bumper of the victim«s car. The device transmitted the car»s location coordinates in real time. Additionally, conversations in the cabin were recorded, and photographs from meetings were sent to third parties and published in stories with comments.

The prosecutor«s office emphasized: »The accused did this without the consent of the people in the photographs, and this information constituted the victim«s personal secret.» According to the investigation, the accused«s motives were jealousy and revenge.

The case is classified under Part 1 of Article 137 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of privacy), which is a crime of minor gravity. The maximum penalty under this article is two years of imprisonment.
