St. Petersburg Man Attacks Bus with Hammer

The Krasnoselsky District Court of St. Petersburg sentenced Maxim Malyavin, found guilty of hooliganism, to one year of forced labor with 10% of his salary deducted. The incident occurred on March 29 on bus route No. 300.

The passenger became indignant when the driver closed the doors and started moving without waiting for people running to the stop. First, Malyavin knocked on the cabin glass with his hand, but not receiving a satisfactory response, he took a hammer from his backpack. He struck the rear-view mirror glass and then the cabin glass. Shards injured the driver.

During the preliminary investigation, the victim explained that he noticed the latecomers, but the doors were already closed, so he did not make another stop. The driver did not explain the reason to Malyavin to avoid distraction from the road and responded to the passenger«s rudeness in the same tone. After getting off at the next stop, the man began hitting the bus with a hammer, demanding that the driver leave the cabin, shouting: «I»ll kill you, bury you, find you.»

Seeing the cuts from broken glass, Malyavin calmed down and, at the driver«s request, put away the hammer. Before leaving, he asked to have his phone number written down, after which he was detained by law enforcement. The victim did not insist on a harsh punishment. The defendant»s own child, who witnessed the incident, spoke in his defense. Malyavin fully confessed, repented, and apologized to the driver. The hammer used in the attack was confiscated and is to be destroyed.
