Sinkhole Opens on Permyakova Street in Tyumen

Due to a collapse of the asphalt, traffic was partially restricted on a section of the roadway near the intersection of Permyakova and Shirotnaya streets in Tyumen. The incident occurred the evening of 4 February. Traffic police are at the scene.

“Work is underway here, appropriate barriers have been installed. A traffic police squad is on duty,” the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate (GIBDD) for Tyumen Oblast reported.

Several months ago we wrote about a similar situation. A traffic jam stretching over a kilometer formed on Profsoyuznaya Street in Tyumen. The cause was a collapsed asphalt at the intersection with 50 Let Oktyabrya Street. Earlier, on the same Profsoyuznaya Street, asphalt collapsed on 1 April, but then it was at the intersection with Sovetskaya Street. Some time later, several lanes were temporarily closed to traffic.

The mayor«s office clarified that specialists from Tyumen Vodokanal would definitely look into the problem. As it turned out, the issue was a reinforced concrete sewer collector that had been destroyed by corrosion over many years of use.
