In winter, the number of thefts from grocery stores in Tyumen has increased significantly. According to sources, law enforcement agencies can receive up to 15–20 or more calls to hypermarkets per day.
An insider explained: «Why there is an increase in store thefts — is still unclear. But possibly the reason was the rise in prices of food and other goods. Also, thieves may have simply become more active. In some places, the number of thefts has tripled.»
As another interlocutor noted, people of various ages are involved in the thefts. Most often, they steal goods that are easy to sell.
He clarified: «These include cheeses, oils, coffee, chocolate, and personal hygiene products — shampoos, deodorants. They also steal alcohol. Some take items from stores for resale, others for themselves.»
The press service of the city police provided an official comment: «Every report is followed up. Store thefts occur daily. As a rule, those involved in such incidents are identified and held accountable.»
