Prosecutors Charge Director After Schoolboy Injured in Gymnasium Heating Accident

The prosecutor«s office has identified the cause of the pipe burst at the Yakut City National Gymnasium, which resulted in a 17-year-old teenager suffering burns of varying severity. This was reported on January 21 by the Telegram channel of the republic»s prosecutor«s office.
«The cause of the accident was the physical wear and tear of the heating appliances, manifested in corrosion, numerous mechanical damages on parts of the heating appliances, deviation of pipelines, and other issues,» the department«s message states.
The incident occurred on December 16, when a pipe burst in the cloakroom of YGNG (Yakut City National Gymnasium), resulting in the teenager suffering first- to third-degree thermal burns and being hospitalized.
An administrative case has been initiated against the gymnasium director under Part 2 of Article 5.57 of the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses — «violation of students» rights,« which is punishable by a fine of 50,000 to 100,000 rubles (approximately $560 to $1,100 at current rates).
It is also reported that the gymnasium voluntarily compensated the schoolboy«s family for moral and material damage, paying 100,000 rubles (approximately $1,100 at current rates). In 2026, the gymnasium has planned a repair of the heating system.
