Police of the British military bases on Cyprus officially confirmed that the body found on 14 January in the south of the island belongs to Vladislav Baumgertner, former general director of OJSC Uralkali.

«The body has been identified through DNA analysis. It belongs to Vladislav Baumgertner,» the police department of the British overseas territory of Akrotiri and Dhekelia, where the namesake military bases of the United Kingdom are located, told TASS.

Baumgertner went missing on 8 January. A search was launched in the mountains. Eventually, the body was found in a gorge, but there was no official confirmation that it was Vladislav Baumgertner.

As Fontanka reported, Vladislav was an avid rock climber and this time decided to tackle another challenging route. On the day Baumgertner planned to do this, it was windy on Cyprus.

Due to significant changes in the appearance of the remains, an initial identification proved impossible. The victim«s identity was established only after a DNA test.

Vladislav Baumgertner served as commercial director and then general director of Uralkali from 2003 to 2013, and was also a member of the company«s board of directors.

According to open sources, in the summer of 2013 Baumgertner was arrested in Belarus on charges of abuse of authority. In November of the same year, the businessman was handed over to Russia, where criminal proceedings were also initiated against Vladislav to facilitate extradition. In February 2015, the case was dropped due to lack of corpus delicti. After that, Baumgertner continued his career and became head of Global Ports.
