Pickpocket Pulls Off Million-Ruble Haul in St. Petersburg Bar

St. Petersburg police have detained a suspect in a major theft at a bar on Nevsky Prospekt. The man stole one million rubles from a jacket left by a visitor.

In St. Petersburg, an unemployed resident of the Primorsky District has been detained on suspicion of stealing a large sum of money. The incident occurred at the end of the New Year holidays, on January 8, at a bar on Nevsky Prospekt, 96.
According to the investigation, the 48-year-old man stole cash amounting to one million rubles (approximately $10,000 at current rates) from the pocket of a jacket left on a common coat rack. The money belonged to a 43-year-old visitor of the establishment.
Operatives identified and detained the suspect two weeks later, on January 20, near a house on Korolyov Prospekt. A criminal case on large-scale theft has been initiated against the man, who is officially unemployed. The investigation is looking into his possible involvement in other crimes.
