Governor of Zabaykalsky Krai Alexander Osipov held an emergency meeting with the management of the Chita Thermal Power Plant-1 (TETs-1) and gave instructions on restoring power supply. This was reported on the regional government«s Telegram channel on the night of 5 February.

Osipov instructed to deploy additional forces if necessary. Housing and communal services facilities are being connected first. He also ordered reports on the situation every 30 minutes.

At 02:05, information emerged that he had sent Deputy Prime Minister of the government Alexei Goncharov and First Vice-Governor of the krai Alexander Kostenko to the TETs-1 itself.

On the night of 5 February, starting at approximately 00:15, a significant part of Chita was left without power supply. The outages affected the area from the city center to the garden cooperatives beyond Smolenka and Ugdan. Some residents also report a drop in temperature in their heating radiators. Eyewitnesses are sending videos showing thick smoke pouring heavily from the Chita TETs-1. We also filmed this smoke up close from the scene.

As reported by the director of the branch «Chitinskaya Generatsiya» of PJSC TGC-14, Andrey Chebykin, an emergency situation occurred at TETs-1, resulting in some consumers being cut off. According to him, emergency crews have already begun work. According to preliminary data from the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM), the accident was caused by a cable overload on a turbogenerator.

No additional information on the causes and timeline for restoring power supply is currently available.

According to the latest data, electricity has been restored in homes in Tsarskoye, Severnoye, Kadala, and Krasnaya Zvezda.
