The Dzerzhinsky District Court of Orenburg considered a criminal case against a 24-year-old local resident, who was accused of violating traffic rules, which negligently caused a person«s death (part 3 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The accident in question occurred on the night of August 4 last year on Prospekt Pobedy opposite house No. 143. The young man, who ended up in the dock, was driving a Lada Granta from Montazhnikov Street towards Avtomatiki Proyezd in the far left lane. At high speed, he lost control, veered into oncoming traffic (where it is prohibited) and collided with a Kia Rio that was driving straight (a 23-year-old guy was behind the wheel of this car).

After that, the accused«s Lada Granta crashed into a Skoda Octavia and flew into a ditch, and the Kia was thrown into another Granta, whose 42-year-old driver was traveling in the oncoming traffic in the far right lane. The latter died on the spot before the arrival of the medical team.

By the court«s verdict, the driver of the first Granta must go to a colony-settlement for 3 years, plus lose his license for 2 years and 6 months. Also, the civil claim was partially satisfied: the man will pay one of the deceased»s relatives 1.2 million rubles (about $13,000 at current rates) as compensation for moral harm. The verdict has not yet entered into force and can be appealed.
