An accident at TPP-1, which left a large part of the city without power, occurred during testing of a new turbogenerator, TGK-14 reported in its channel in the early hours of February 5.

«During testing of the new turbogenerator No. 3 at TPP-1, damage occurred to equipment on the 110 kV bus system, and the protection system activated. Two turbines and six boilers remained in operation, with the station’s capacity at 110 MW,» the statement said.

The bus system is a common node through which electricity from generators is distributed further down the network. Damage on the 110 kV bus causes automatic shutdown of part of the equipment to prevent an accident.

During the night, specialists worked to restore normal operation of the plant — 350 MW. Of the 11 network pumps, seven were operating.

According to the latest information from TGK-14, further work to increase the thermal and electrical load will continue throughout the day to restore it to 350 MW. The heat supply is currently working.

In the comments on Chita.Ru, there are no complaints about the lights, but some note that the radiators are not as hot.

In the early hours of February 5, around 00:15, a large part of Chita was left without power. The outages affected the area from the city center to the garden cooperatives (SNT) beyond Smolenka and Ugdana. Some residents also reported a drop in the temperature of their heating radiators. Eyewitnesses sent videos of thick smoke billowing from the Chita TPP. We also filmed this smoke up close at the scene.

As Andrey Chebykin, director of the Chita Generation branch of PJSC TGK-14, reported, an emergency situation occurred at TPP-1, resulting in some consumers being disconnected. According to him, emergency crews have already begun work. According to preliminary data from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the accident was caused by a cable overload on the turbogenerator.

During the night, the governor of Zabaykalsky Krai, Alexander Osipov, held an emergency meeting with the management of the Chita TPP-1 and sent Deputy Chairman of the Government Alexey Goncharov and First Vice-Governor of the Krai Alexander Kostenko to the site.
