Millions of views. The screech of tires on mountain serpentines. A smile that made followers« hearts stop. Russia»s most beautiful female biker, admired and envied by many. Two years ago, that endless ride came to an abrupt end. Since that July day in 2024, her family has been left not only with grief, but also a pile of uncomfortable questions: why did the action camera that could have explained everything vanish from the scene of the severe crash? Versions of what happened still differ, and the legal process continues. We look into the high-profile case — in a report by Anastasia Chesnokova.

A few days before the tragedy, MotoTanya told her followers about plans to “ride across the whole country.” On 22 July 2024, she set off on a Turkish highway with two men: her friend Sergei and local resident Onur Obut. The group was travelling from Izmir along the Milas–Seke road towards Bodrum. The convoy had a strict order: Tatyana in front, Obut behind her, and Sergei bringing up the rear.

At some point, they caught up with a truck. Ozolina began to slow down. Onur either got distracted or misjudged the distance. His motorcycle, during emergency braking, reared up on its front wheel and slammed into the rear of MotoTanya«s bike. The impact scattered them to opposite sides of the road, and Ozolina»s motorcycle crashed into a crash barrier. Sergei, who saw it with his own eyes, later admitted: he only saw the moment of impact.

“I only saw the moment of the collision, when Onur was already braking, stood on the front wheel and hit Tanya«s rear of the motorcycle. They flew to different sides of the road.”

Police and an ambulance were called to the scene immediately. Unfortunately, the blogger died from her injuries before medics arrived. However, Turkish publication Karya Haber reported a shocking detail that rattled even seasoned followers and bikers. According to local journalists, Tatyana got up after the fall and walked over to her motorcycle. Then she collapsed dead. Her helmet, unable to withstand the impact, flew off her head. She was wearing all her protective gear, but it did not save her from a fatal head injury.

“Our reporters arrived at the scene. We learned with great sadness that Tatyana first got up and walked to her motorcycle, but suddenly fell and died. Her helmet flew off her head, and she was wearing all her gear, but due to a head injury from the tragic accident, Tatyana lost her vital functions,” the Turkish colleagues reported at the time.

Investigations began into who was to blame for the horrific crash, and evidence was needed. Later it turned out that the “hardware” of both participants was packed with technology: video cameras were mounted on both Onur«s motorcycle and Ozolina»s bike. The Turk got to them first. This was confirmed by another witness who happened to be nearby, at the epicentre of the chaos. According to him, Obut, despite crying out in pain from his leg, found the strength to delete the recording.

“Onur was lying and shouting that something was wrong with his leg. Then I saw a woman lying face down. I checked her pulse, it was very slow. After that, I found the cameras, they were damaged. The recording had been going for 52 minutes. I approached Onur, and he took the camera. Said it belonged to him. Then he stopped the recording, deleted it, and put the camera in his pocket.”

Tatyana was a popular blogger.

A prolonged case

A criminal case was opened over MotoTanya«s death. The investigation concluded that Obut was at fault for not maintaining a safe distance. A forensic medical examination cleared Tatyana of blame and found the Turkish biker 100% responsible. But the cameras from the motorcycles are still not in the case files.

“The conclusion of this forensic medical examination report states Tatyana«s innocence and acknowledges 100% fault of the Turkish motorcyclist. We have all the case materials in hand, all evidence has been collected, except for the video cameras from the motorcycles,” said the Omsk woman»s ex-husband Stanislav Fedorenko on the Telegram channel “#mototanya”.

In January 2025, the case went to court. Obut was banned from leaving Turkey and ordered to regularly check in with the police.

The first hearing took place three months later. The judges reviewed the expert report and witness testimony. Obut«s lawyer disagreed with their version and requested a re-enactment at the crash site.

“At the hearing, there were witnesses, the truck driver, a lawyer representing our family«s interests, and the defence counsel for the accused. The accused himself was not present. He still does not admit his guilt. The accused is under a travel ban,” Stanislav said.

In June 2025, a re-enactment was held at the accident site. It yielded nothing new, according to the family.

In August of that year, the court lifted the travel ban for Obut. The Ozolina family«s lawyer filed a protest over this. Fedorenko appealed to the Federation Council, after which the case was taken under control by the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Prosecutor General»s Office.

“I filed an appeal to the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council for International Affairs, asking for assistance and oversight of the court case by the Russian Federation.”

The next hearing took place in November. The court was to hear two witnesses who had found the cameras. The first of them suddenly changed his testimony. Ozolina«s lawyer had to file a statement about giving false testimony. The second witness did not come to court. The hearing was postponed to February 2026.

At the fourth hearing, the witness finally confirmed the presence of cameras at the crash site and stated that Obut personally took one of them and turned off the recording.

“The initial examination had already proven the accused«s guilt. The defence exercised its right to challenge the results, so in February the materials were sent for review, which extended the process,” Fedorenko clarified.

On 3 July 2026, the case was heard for the fifth time. The new expert report from Izmir had still not reached the court, and the original case files had not been returned. Due to the lack of documents, the hearing was postponed to October.

“We hope that this check will finally put an end to it and bring final clarity,” Stanislav added.

«It was a nightmare»

Ivan learned of his daughter«s death from Stanislav — Tatyana»s ex-husband. The call came in the morning when the Ozolins had just returned from Moscow to Tara. Before that, they had spent a week vacationing on the Black Sea coast — Tatyana had sent her parents there, and the next day she set off on her final route.

“Stas called. Those were nightmare days. She sent us to the Black Sea coast. Put us on a bus, and the next day she went on that trip. We spent a week there, then returned to Moscow. Stas met us. We came home [to Tara], and in the morning he calls. So it was a blow to the head. After that, my health completely deteriorated,” the deceased«s father told NGS55.RU correspondent.

The Ozolin family had already been through this pain. In 2008, their son was killed in Omsk. He was 21. The death of their daughter 16 years later was the second blow, which, according to Ivan, is impossible to explain to anyone who has not experienced it.

“It was hard, because we had already had a tragedy. Our son was killed in Omsk in 2008. He was 21. And then this tragedy with our daughter. No one can understand a person who has lost a child until they feel it themselves.”

For the first six months, the Ozolins did not live, they merely existed. Tatyana«s mother was constantly ill, and her father»s health also deteriorated. The tragedy left no room for ordinary life.

“My health is gone too. My wife felt bad. The first six months, we barely coped. No one expected it. A girl in full bloom, and then bam, it«s all over.”

Ivan admits he never quite got his head around his daughter«s path into the world of motorcycles. As a child and teenager, Tatyana danced and was far from mechanics and speed.

“It was unexpected, dancing and a motorcycle… I just couldn«t wrap my head around it.”

But her father did not stand in her way. And in that, he says, lay their family philosophy: let a person try, even if the choice seems wrong.

“All my children do what they want, because I never stopped them from anything. Even if I thought it was wrong. My wife grumbled a bit at first, but then what could she do? I understood: if a person has set their mind on something, you have to let them try. They«ll decide for themselves whether to continue or not.”

Her parents supported Tatyana in Moscow, where she had moved. Her father, who worked in a theatre, often toured the capital and always found time to meet. Tanya herself rarely came to Tara, but she called regularly.

Today, the parents« main support is their grandson Vsevolod. He is 15, and he lives with his father in Moscow. He studies with B»s and A«s and attends a quadcopter modelling club. In the future, he wants to get behind the handlebars of a motorcycle — just like his mother.

“He finished the eighth grade. He gets fours and fives. He goes to a club as an elective, doing quadcopter modelling. He wants to ride a motorcycle like his mom. But dad says: «When you grow up, then we»ll talk.« For now, it»s a bicycle and sports.”

The loss of his mother has made the boy more mature. At 15, he had to learn independence — from cooking meals to coping without the one person he could complain to.

“He«s moved a bit away from the tragedy. Before, he was the centre of attention, but now there»s no mom. Dad scolds him — there«s no one to complain to. He has to be independent: cook his own food and all that. He»s already preparing for adult life.”

The farewell to Tatyana Ozolina took place on 28 July 2024 at the Troekurovskoye Cemetery in Moscow. Dozens of people came. Her body was cremated, and the ashes were taken to Tara. There, in her small homeland, MotoTanya found her final resting place — between the graves of her brother and grandmother.

The editorial team extends its condolences to the family and friends of Tatyana Ozolina.
