Mother of Missing Teen Speaks Out

On August 14, a 15-year-old teenager went missing in Perm near the city beach. For three days, his parents, volunteer search teams, and concerned citizens have been searching for him — locals with echo sounders are also being asked to help. We spoke with his mother about that fateful day.

The names of the people in this article have been changed, as by law we cannot publish the personal data of minors. The teenager is Danil, and his mother is Alyona.

On the morning of August 14, Danil went to visit a friend, Alyona told 59.RU, saying he would help rearrange furniture there. Later, at around two in the afternoon, the teenager told his mother he was going out for a walk, then briefly stopped home to change his sneakers. A friend and his sister went to the beach with Danil.

“And at 5:46 p.m., the police called me from his number and said my son had drowned,” Alyona shares. “My husband and I drove there, but he wasn«t there; they said he»d been carried away by the current. That day all the sluice gates were open.”

The kids had swum quite far from the shore, and at some point all three began to drown. Vacationers noticed them and paddled out to the children on a SUP board. Danil«s friends were pulled onto the board, but the teenager himself was carried even farther away by the current — Alyona says that when people started jumping into the water after her son, he disappeared from view.

Later, the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS) arrived at the scene. Rescuers combed the water surface in boats but found nothing.

“It all happened at 4:40 p.m.,” our interviewee recalls. “His father went out at night on a boat with a friend — they searched until five in the morning but found nothing. On Saturday they went out again at nine in the morning to search; divers were already working there, they searched everything again and didn«t find him. Yesterday his father spent the whole day with an echo sounder, going from Kommunalny Bridge to Krasavinsky, scanning the bottom — nothing. That day the water speed was two meters per second during the release, so we think he may have been carried toward Nytva or Krasnokamsk.”

Danil was 15 years old. He was active in sports — his mother showed us photos of his numerous medals and trophies. The teenager played badminton and football, took part in competitions and races, and in the summer also took up kayaking. Alyona also shared what Danil«s schoolteacher wrote about what happened to him.

“I am with you,” the teacher writes. “My thoughts are only of Danil. My heart breaks together with yours, my soul is also not at peace. I share your grief — every tear. I have no strength, but I am here. We will remember every moment. Danil was a very bright person, with a radiant smile, kind eyes, an angelic soul! He is our pride!”
