Ministerskie Ozera Landslide Damages Collector and Power Line

The Sochi administration discussed measures to stabilize the landslide process and prevent water levels from rising near the Ministerskie Ozera residential complex during rains. Damage to the collector on a section above the slope is already being repaired: the owner has begun work, and heavy machinery is on site. According to preliminary data, more than 18,000 cubic meters of soil will need to be removed from the collector tunnels, after which restoration will begin. Heavy rains triggered a landslide, causing a complex hydraulic structure on departmental land to collapse. Soil pressure destroyed two tunnels of the collector on the Bzugu River, leading to flooding of the residential complex«s adjacent area on July 15 during heavy rains.

— After the water receded, specialists inspected both tunnels, assessed the damage, and drew up a work plan. The main priority now is the safety of people and the preservation of property. Rains are forecast for this week; a repeat of the situation when water flooded cars in the parking lot cannot be ruled out. We discussed with the residents« initiative group the procedure in case of a storm warning while soil excavation and collector repairs are underway. We are constantly monitoring the situation and are in direct contact with residents, — said Sochi Deputy Head Igor Korostylev.

The landslide also damaged the main power supply cable line of the residential complex; currently, Ministerskie Ozera is receiving electricity via a temporary backup scheme.
