Man sprayed tear gas on father, child, detained

St. Petersburg police detained a man who sprayed tear gas on another driver during a road conflict. The victim and his child received medical assistance.

The incident occurred on the morning of 3 February on Komsomola Street in Kalininsky District, St. Petersburg. Surveillance cameras captured a white Hyundai driver spraying gas toward a man standing by another car.

The victim told police that he reprimanded the Hyundai driver for a careless maneuver. In response, the driver sprayed him with pepper spray while the man was placing his child in a car seat. The stream of gas entered the cabin, where the infant was.
Both victims received medical assistance at a hospital and were then released home. The Hyundai driver attempted to flee the scene. However, around noon on 4 February, a local police officer detained the suspect near building 87 on Kondratyevsky Prospekt. He turned out to be a 40-year-old resident of Murino (a suburb of St. Petersburg). A criminal case of hooliganism was opened in connection with the incident, as reported by the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (GU MVD) on 5 February.
