Man Killed by Falling Tree During Hurricane in the Urals
A hurricane that swept through the town of Zarechny on the evening of 20 July has claimed a life. A large tree fell on a man. The information was confirmed to E1.RU by the press service of the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM). According to them, power supply was disrupted in five populated areas that day, and 30 trees were uprooted.
«Over the past 24 hours, adverse weather conditions were forecast in some parts of the region, including heavy rain, thunderstorms, and wind gusts of up to 18 m/s. The forecast proved accurate. At the moment, emergency restoration work has been completed and power supply has been restored,» EMERCOM added.
«Everything was ripped out, it was just awful. The bathhouse was crushed, trees were torn out like hell. My husband»s car — gone, all of it. This all happened literally in a minute,« one local woman sobbed.
Metal fences collapsed between houses, and window frames were torn off by the wind. For summer residents, the consequences are dire, as restoring their plots after the disaster will cost hundreds of thousands of rubles (thousands of dollars at current rates).
Recall that traffic police have introduced new restrictions on highways due to flooding. On 20 July, several more populated areas were flooded, a dam burst in Sysertsky district, and a temporary accommodation center was opened there.
