Man dies in truck crash near Volgograd

A fatal road accident occurred early in the morning of February 4 at the 881st kilometer of the federal highway R-22 «Caspian» in the Ilovlinsky district of the Volgograd Region. As a result of a head-on collision between a Mitsubishi passenger car and an FAW truck pulling a gas tanker semi-trailer, one person died.

The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Volgograd Region provided preliminary details: «According to preliminary information, at 4:00 a.m. at the 881st kilometer of the federal highway R-22 «Caspian», the driver lost control of the Mitsubishi, drove into the oncoming lane, where it collided with an FAW truck traveling in the opposite direction. As a result of the accident, the driver of the passenger car died at the scene from his injuries before the ambulance arrived.»

Photographs from the accident scene show the extent of the destruction. The passenger car was so deformed that it was impossible to identify its model. The truck tractor with semi-trailer left the roadway and got stuck in a deep snowy ditch. The cause of the incident is to be determined during the investigation.

The section of the highway near the Avilov khutor (rural settlement) has already been the site of serious accidents. Several years ago, a Hyundai minibus was involved in an accident there. At that time, the driver died at the wheel due to cardiac arrest, which led to the collision.
