Karabash homes lose heating ahead of abnormal cold

Residents of over 30 homes in Karabash have been left without heating and hot water due to a breakdown. The local administration reported this on Wednesday, January 21. Complaints about the outages emerged the day before, and repairs were planned to be completed by midnight, but a burst occurred during reconnection.

«In Karabash, there has been no hot water or heating since morning,» our readers reported the previous evening.

Residents have been offered shelter in temporary accommodation points set up at schools No. 2 and No. 4 during the outage. A state of heightened alert was declared in the city on the morning of January 21.
«Today, during the heating system startup, a pipeline burst occurred,» the Karabash administration reported on January 21. «Measures to drain water from the system were promptly taken to fix the breakdown. Work is ongoing continuously and is planned to be completed approximately by 5 p.m. today.»

According to the regional EMERCOM (Ministry of Emergency Situations), 3,762 people live in the homes disconnected from heating.
«From the RSChS (Unified State System for Prevention and Elimination of Emergency Situations), a group of 29 people and 10 pieces of equipment are on site,» the department reported. «Including from the Russian EMERCOM for Chelyabinsk Region, seven people and two pieces of equipment.»

«We urgently ask for calm and patience,» the administration appealed to residents. «We are doing everything possible to restore heating as quickly as possible. Currently, 31 apartment buildings in the city remain temporarily without heating. This situation is under special control by the city administration leadership. We ask you to show understanding and support for each other during this difficult period.»
Meanwhile, the prosecutor«s office is monitoring the repair work.
«To monitor the repair work by LLC Perspektiva, acting city prosecutor Yevgeny Lazarev went to the site of the utility accident that occurred on the heating networks on Metallurgov Street. The situation with the repair has been put under control,» said Natalya Mamayeva, senior assistant to the regional prosecutor.
Recall that the day before, EMERCOM issued a storm warning. According to data from the Chelyabinsk Hydrometeorological Center, on January 21 in some areas, and also from January 22–25 in most districts of Chelyabinsk Region, abnormally cold weather is expected with average daily air temperatures seven degrees or more below the climatic norm.
