Kamensk-Uralsky Flooding Submerges Police Detention Center

In Kamensk-Uralsky, heavy rains flooded the temporary detention facility (ITF) at the local police department. Readers reported this to E1.RU.

Precipitation hit the city on the afternoon of July 18, turning streets into rivers. Locals navigated the roads on paddleboards. According to readers, the perinatal center was also flooded. This even led to the opening of a criminal case for negligence.

We reached out for comment to Valery Gorelykh, head of the press service of the Sverdlovsk Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (GU MVD). Here is what he said.

«Indeed, last weekend, on July 18, when Kamensk-Uralsky was celebrating its 325th anniversary, the city, like many other municipalities in the region, experienced heavy rain. Due to prolonged bad weather and heavy precipitation, the concert program, including a performance by singer Burito, had to be postponed to Sunday. The festive fireworks were also canceled due to the downpour.»

«When water began to seep into the basement of the service building, where 11 members of the special contingent were being held, they were all temporarily transferred to other special premises in accordance with procedure. The documentation was not damaged. The situation was immediately taken under personal control by the head of the police department, Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Karkavin. The elements do not choose whom to spoil the mood for. Everyone is equal before them: people, services, and departments,» noted Colonel Valery Gorelykh.
